I have a Mac Pro Quad Core (Early 2009) with the Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem 3500 series processor. When I bought it Apple mentioned on their website that it would only support 2GB memory DIMMs.
Some sites like
OWC - Other World Computing proclaimed that the Quad Core would support up to 16GB memory using 4GB DIMMs. Recently Apple has changed its tech specs for the Quad Core to reflect that as well.
Kingston Technology has a series of System-Specific Memory and the Valueram Memory. I am going to test the Kingston Value Ram in my Mac Pro and get back with the results here on this site.
The Value Ram is about Dkr 900,- per 4GB DIMM and the System-Specific memory is around Dkr 3800,- per 4GB DIMM or about 65% cheaper.
Specs of the memory:
- KVR1066D3D4R7SK3/12G
- 12GB (3x4GB DIMMs)
- DDR3
- CL7
- PC-8500
- 1066 MHz
- Dual Rank
- ECC
- Thermal Sensor
